The Artist

Built with the player, not just the sound.

Nick Schendzielos — Job For A Cowboy

Nick Schendzielos

Nick “Shinz” Schendzielos is the bassist behind Job for a Cowboy, Cephalic Carnage, Havok, and Nuclear Power Trio. Known for extreme-metal precision, explosive technique, and unpredictable low-end energy, his playing brings slap, tapping, chords, double-thumb, and aggressive fingerstyle into a uniquely heavy voice.

Progressive metal's most enviable virtual bass at your fingertips — ShinzBass effortlessly recreates Nick's iconic tones with Job For A Cowboy, Cephalic Carnage and Havok. An exceptionally realistic virtual model of a Warwick Dolphin 5-string, dialled in for everything from rock and pop through funk and technical death metal.

3 signature tones.
From Yin to Yang.

ShinzBass comes with three distinct tones engineered around Nick's work — Yin (DI), Ram's Head, and Yang — spanning pristine source capture to hot-rodded Job For A Cowboy bass tones to driven, grit-ready rock.

Yin

Yin

The raw instrument. Shape it your way.

More

Yin

The raw sound of the instrument, captured directly via high-end, studio-grade recording hardware. Yin is the pristine DI — process as you would any other bass for ultimate flexibility.

Ram's Head

Ram's Head

Jason Suecof's chain from 'Moon Healer'.

More

Ram's Head

Recreates Jason Suecof's exact processing chain from Job For A Cowboy's 'Moon Healer' album. Think of this as a hot-rodded DI, expertly moulded by a legendary producer to sit between drums and guitars.

Yang

Yang

Classic grit that can push into distortion.

More

Yang

A classic grit tone that can easily be pushed into distortion — based on Nick's work with Havok. Ideal for heavier music.

Engine

Built to feel real, not sampled.

Every SubMission Audio instrument is powered by truBass — our engine for dynamic, believable bass performances.

truBass Engine

Dynamic response that feels like an instrument, not a sample library. Velocity layers, round-robin, and string behaviour modelled from the source recording.

truSlides

Slide from any note to any other note at any speed. Every slide generated in real time — no pre-baked transitions.

Intelligent Picking

Tempo-synced alternate picking with deep round robin keeps fast passages from collapsing into repetition.

Free Kontakt Player

Runs in the industry-standard free Kontakt Player. No hidden costs, no extra purchases required.

truBass

The engine behind every SubMission Audio virtual instrument.

truBass is our proprietary sampling and scripting engine built specifically for bass instruments. It's why our basses respond like real instruments instead of static sample libraries — every note is shaped by the context around it.

truSlides

Slide from any note to any other note on the virtual fretboard, at any speed. No pre-baked transitions — every slide is generated in real time.

Multi-sampled Fretboard

Every fret position across the entire instrument has been individually sampled. Notes are performed where a real bassist would play them.

Intelligent Picking

Tempo-synced alternate picking with deep round robin. No repeated samples, no matter how fast you write.

Humanize

Subtle natural variation in timing, dynamics, and tone colour. Dial it up for organic feel, or turn it off for machine-tight precision.

DOOM Mode

Collapses the round robin to the most powerful samples. Less variation, more impact — for when every hit needs to land identically.

Position & Force String

Choose where on the fretboard each note is played, and lock notes to specific strings for total tonal control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens after I purchase?

This is a digital product — there's no physical item. After purchase, you'll receive an email with a serial number (usually instant). Redeem it with your free Native Access account to download and install.

Do I need to buy Kontakt?

No. ShinzBass runs in the free Kontakt Player with no limitations. As an official Native Instruments partner, all SubMission Audio instruments are fully supported — no demo mode, no restrictions, no hidden costs.

How do I install this?

You can find our step-by-step installation guide here.

How many computers can I use this on?

One user, two machines. You may install on two devices (e.g. one laptop, one workstation), provided only one is in regular use. Simultaneous use on more than one device is not permitted.

How do I program slides?

Check out our in-depth guide for a full walkthrough.

Do I need iLok?

No. Licensing is handled through Native Access, which is completely free.

Is there a trial version?

Unfortunately, we're unable to offer a trial version at this time.

Can I use this as an amp on my own bass tracks?

No. This is a virtual instrument designed for use with MIDI. The built-in tones are specific to the sampled instrument and cannot be used to process your own audio.

How do I get help?

Our support team is standing by — contact us here. Please note that since Kontakt Player is developed by Native Instruments, we're unable to offer technical support for its operation.

Jack Gardiner

For someone that can't really play bass but wants realistic, modern sounding low end in their tracks without having to do much tweaking, this plugin is a game changer. The sheer variety of articulations within ShinzBass means I can live out my 80's style wannabe fusion dreams all in the MIDI grid.

I originally treated writing bass parts as an afterthought and found it to be a chore — with ShinzBass, composing bass parts is now genuinely the most exciting instrument to write. Super intuitive and easy to use.

Amazing

Sits just right, with minimal tweaking. People don't realize, you don't WANT a ton of low end dragging down your mix and taking energy out of the guitars . Shinz gets it right; it occupies a niche and doesn't encroach on other instruments, thus saving headroom. Bravo! And the interface is sick.

Useless bassist? No worries!

Super life like, great articulation and perfect tuning. Plays the right notes every time, and with the right feel. What more could you want?

No bassist? No problem.

Probably best finger style library to date. I prefer this over Grove bass, which is also sick, but the articulations and tone of this library are more versatile. I really don’t have complaints, but if I’m being picky, there could be more midrange left in the DI. Easily adjusted with amp settings. Highly recommend for the most realistic proggy bass tones.

Perfect for any production

As a guitarist, being a bit tired of tracking the bass myself, I needed a quick getaway. Every review of my fav producers lead to SA, so I gave it a try... no regrets, just a perfect natural sound in no time with minimum effort.
The hardest thing was to pick only one. Shinzbass was my pick, perfect for metal.
