The Artist

We sampled the player, too.

NocturnalBass samples an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray with Nik Nocturnal in a quasi J-Bass pickup configuration. It has round lows and clear midrange for punk, metalcore, and cleaner productions.

Features

Every control, explained.

NocturnalBass interface

Tone Selector

Switch between tones matched by ear to the artist's rig.

Fretboard

We sampled every fret on every string. The interface shows where the engine plays each MIDI note.

Articulation

Use keyswitches to change articulation. The display shows the active articulation.

Alternate Picking

Tempo-synced picking algorithm with a robust round robin. No repeated samples, no matter the speed.

DOOM

DOOM Mode limits playback to a smaller set of high-impact samples for a more consistent attack.

Humanize

Adds adjustable variation between notes so repeated parts sound less mechanical.

Position

Choose the fretboard position for each note, or let the engine choose automatically.

Mixer

Use Drive, Tone, Compression, and Girth to fit the bass into your mix.

Settings

Set the keyswitches, bass tuning, and pitch-bend range.

Three tones.
From DI to heavy.

NocturnalBass includes DI, Clean, and Distortion tones for writing, demos, and final mixes, from funk through metal.

DI

DI

Pure capture. Shape it your way.

More

DI

The raw instrument recorded direct through studio-grade hardware. Use it with your own plugins, pedals, or amps.

Clean

Clean

Classic Ampeg clean, Neumann-captured.

More

Clean

A clean tone through custom cabinet impulses based on an Ampeg Heritage 8x10, captured with Neumann U47 and U87 microphones. Use Drive to blend in distortion for rock.

Distortion

Distortion

Textured midrange glue between bass and guitars.

More

Distortion

Two amp stages add midrange texture that connects the bass with rhythm guitars. It uses the same Ampeg-based cabinet impulses recorded with Neumann microphones.

Engine

Built for playable bass parts.

truBass powers every Submission Audio bass with fretboard mapping, round robins, real-time slides, and Humanize.

truBass Engine

Velocity layers, round robins, and string-aware playback change how each note responds.

truSlides

Slide between any two notes at any speed. truSlides generates each transition in real time instead of playing a fixed recording.

Intelligent picking

Tempo-synced alternate picking rotates through recorded samples so fast passages do not repeat the same attack.

Free Kontakt Player

Runs in the free Kontakt Player. You do not need to buy Kontakt.

Artist reviews

What producers say.

Luka Rozaka

I'm always hesitant when it comes to using MIDI bass on an album production, but this is just too good. NocturnalBass ticks all the boxes of what I'm looking for, from songwriting to final masters.

NocturnalBass is a perfect example of just how good modern sample libraries are getting. Sonically superb and works effectively without any need for additional processing.

Great sounding midi instrument

The nocturnal bass sounds great and natural. I replaced my bass track with this virtual instrument on my band’s latest release, and used it in some songs I mastered for another local band.

A Very Versatile Bass

Love the DI sound of the Nocturnal Bass, and it really shines once you run it through a simple FX Chain. Particularly good with a partially wet Harmonic Distortion and Chorus Effects.
