The Artist

We sampled the player, too.

Jacob Umansky, Intervals

We obsessed over UmanskyBass. Every string, every fret, multiple tunings, every articulation I actually use when I play. My engineer and I burned an extra studio day on the double-thumb / thumping side alone, just to get the dynamics sitting right.

Hearing it back in people's tracks, and seeing it turn up in live rigs already, is a bit surreal. One of my favourite things I've worked on.

Jacob Umansky Intervals

UmanskyBass samples Jacob Umansky's custom Dingwall Z3X, a model that can sell for close to $10,000 USD. It includes his fingerstyle and thumping articulations for detailed prog bass parts.

Features

Every control, explained.

UmanskyBass interface

Tone Selector

Switch between tones matched by ear to the artist's rig.

Fretboard

We sampled every fret on every string. The interface shows where the engine plays each MIDI note.

Articulation

Use keyswitches to change articulation. The display shows the active articulation.

Alternate Picking

Tempo-synced picking algorithm with a robust round robin. No repeated samples, no matter the speed.

DOOM

DOOM Mode limits playback to a smaller set of high-impact samples for a more consistent attack.

Humanize

Adds adjustable variation between notes so repeated parts sound less mechanical.

Position

Choose the fretboard position for each note, or let the engine choose automatically.

Mixer

Use Drive, Tone, Compression, and Girth to fit the bass into your mix.

Settings

Set the keyswitches, bass tuning, and pitch-bend range.

4 tailored tones.
Jacob's studio sounds.

Four tones follow Jacob's Intervals studio rig: DI, a piano-like clean tone, Grit, and a heavier auxiliary tone.

DI

DI

The raw instrument. Shape it your way.

More

DI

The raw instrument recorded direct through studio-grade hardware. Use it with your own processing.

Clean

Clean

The iconic Z3X piano-esque tone.

More

Clean

A clean tone based on Jacob's Instagram playthroughs and album work, with the bright, piano-like attack of his Z3X.

Grit

Grit

Like Clean, but extra.

More

Grit

Keeps Jacob's upper-mid balance while adding more gain and note attack.

Heavy

Heavy

Fuzzy, mid-heavy auxiliary tone.

More

Heavy

A fuzzy, mid-heavy auxiliary tone based on Jacob's studio rig.

Engine

Built for playable bass parts.

truBass powers every Submission Audio bass with fretboard mapping, round robins, real-time slides, and Humanize.

truBass Engine

Velocity layers, round robins, and string-aware playback change how each note responds.

truSlides

Slide between any two notes at any speed. truSlides generates each transition in real time instead of playing a fixed recording.

Intelligent picking

Tempo-synced alternate picking rotates through recorded samples so fast passages do not repeat the same attack.

Artist reviews

What producers say.

Aaron Marshall

Jacob is tenacious and precise in his ability to hold down a strong foundation for the music I make. That was liberating for me on Circadian, even without a meticulously sampled robot version of him in plugin form — I suppose he is now an immortal asset, at your disposal, living inside your computer.

Sheldon Dingwall

Jacob Umansky has been a top Dingwall artist for several years. His tone is textbook perfect, and his technique and composition skills are off the charts. Jacob and the team at SubMission Audio truly captured his sound and the essence of the Z3X flawlessly with this plug-in.

Great bass for demos

Have found this incredible for programming bass for my tracks. At the moment the tones inside aren't 100% for what I need but it doesn't matter when programming, and if I wasn't pairing with Parallax I'm sure I could tweak it get what I want.

Pretty good

I think it’s pretty good for basic based stuff. I wish there was a play along button or you could play along with the song if you just dropped it in.
